I typed a text. How can I move it to another location. I click on it , try to drag it, but the layer below the text moves. And no, the text layer is selected. this is very counterintuitive.

For the general case, see this: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Why-is...rong-layer.
Text layers can also be moved with the Text tool (Alt-Ctrl-Drag)

And no, the text layer is selected. this is very counterintuitive. In pictures: Using the Move Tool. (1) By default the move tool uses Pick a lsyer or guide. The cursor has to be on a solid pixel in the text layer. If not it finds the next layer with the solid pixel and moves that layer. There is an indicator, the move icon changes when on the solid pixel. Change the default action in the move tool options to Move the active layer and you can click and drag anywhere in the text layer. Shift key toggles. (2) If you want to, change the default in Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options There is another way, not using the move tool. When the text tool is active, (as when you create text) The text box is moved using Shift-Alt +click-drag. |
