Anyone working on video games with Gimp 3.0?

I'm thinking about working on a flying simulator video game in Unity. I'm going to have to make the art myself and I'm a novice with Gimp too.
It seems like there are quite a few developers making games with Gimp now: https://indiegamemagazine.com/articles/w...lture.html
Does anybody here use Gimp for video games? If so, do you have any advice on where to get started. I'm feeling overwhelmed.

It all depends on the kind of game. If it is 2d, you would probably use GIMP for drawing sprite, landscapes, etc... If it is 3d you will use GIMP for texturing, which is a whole subject in itself.

Also, are you familiar with Unity? Programming? Game development in general? Not trying to discourage you, but these are huge topics.

Yes it will be 2D art. I'm an intermediate programmer in c#, and I'm definitely not ready for 3D texturing. I'm thinking about making it top-down gameplay where you fly over all these interesting landscapes, land anywhere and take off anywhere you can (e.g. long enough runway strip in a field, without getting stuck). Open to ideas though.
