Background change thru windshield

I am an automotive photographer and decent Gimp user. I sometimes replace background on images but I haven't figured out how to make the background show up naturally on the other side of the windshield and side windows.  Could someone give me some pointers on how to get started? Much appreciated!  See attachments (this is not my work but what I want to be able to do)

IMHO going to be very much on a per-image basis. No real difference to your result. Replace the window areas with a semi-transparent layer (of suitable colour depending on image). There are no real reflections / distortions from the original to try and add. Why not update to Gimp 2.10 ?
