Blending layers together
#1
Hi all I'm wanting to blend 2 layers together for a heightmap (where the red lines I have drawn)

Also is there a way to get the magic wand to select an area kind of like where the red lines area If I were the merge the 2 layers together rather than draw it manually with the free select tool? thanks Smile

Can you give a bit more information please. How are you blending the layers together ? Is it using a layer mode (which one ) on the top layer or maybe just create some transparency in the selected area.
Or if you have no idea, show the two layers and possibly what the result looks like.

Probably not with the fuzzy select tool, I tend to use the quickmask and paint in a selection

Basically I have my heightmap (the dark grey is the ground and the other layer is the panda basically a higher ground)
I usually combine these two using the smudge tool to and it makes a smooth slope in game for example looks like the 2nd picture
Rather than go around the whole thing manually I would like to combine the edges of the panda with the other layer maybe 40-80 pixel size.
Is there a more effficient way to do this apart from gaussusian blur?

From your images you could try:

Top is a temporary layer, a template 'shape'. Reduced opacity, just needed as a guide. I put in a rough path just for this example to indicate the area.

As ever, a layer mask and the area painted in using a large fuzzy brush. The fuzzyness providing the 'blend' between layers.

Might / might-not be what you require.

Not really sure what you want, but if I understood:

on your panda map, Alpha to selection > Select / Shrink (30-40 pixels) > Mask from selection > Blur the mask up to your needs, nothing else will be blurred, just a smooth transition
