Gimp woes - Windows 10
#1
Today I decided to try the newest version of Gimp and after a few install attempts - including a clean install - I kept getting a string of gimp gmic_gimp_qt.exe - entry point not found  error messages.

So I decided to just go back and do a clean install of 2.8 which I have been using for some time. But now every time I start Gimp it goes through the long process of looking for Fonts, and changing font directories does nothing to help this. Gimp is also now very slow to close. When I close the program it takes 15 seconds or more to close the windows.

Any help resolving these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Otherwise, it looks like your 2.10 installattion carried over the GMIC plugin from 2.8 but you need one specific to 2.10. If you reinstall 2.10, erase/rename the imp profile it creates and start with a fresh one.

The gmic error messages in Gimp 2.10 probably caused by a left-over from Gimp 2.8 There is a dedicated version for Gimp 2.10, the old plugin does not work.

Problems with Gimp 2.8 ? How clean was the clean installation. Might need to do it again
I would use the Windows uninstaller first.
If anything left in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\ then delete the GIMP 2 folder.
You will still have a Gimp 2.8 profile C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8 from long ago. rename it to disable.
Install Gimp 2.8
Run it to make a new, default Gimp profile.
Hopefully an improvement.

Thank You. The second link took me to instructions that worked. Clearing out the font cache worked - so far at least  Smile
