Can this be simplified/dramatised?

I want to show plumbers the problem I have with a tap seat but I have been unable to take a good clear pic.
There are two grooves in it is the problem.
You can see them if you look hard on the pic I took.  One at about 3 o'clock and the other at maybe 10 o'clock.
They prevent washers working well.  There is always a leak.
I have played with Gimp as best I could but I've failed to find a way to clean up this pic so it simply shows things and shows them 'dramatically', so to speak.
Any suggestions as to what I could/should do?

I used levels (center slider), highlights and shadows and curves.

I increased the exposure.

I applied a mask just to show the change achieved by the altered exposure but kept the areas furthest from the center.

Inverted S curves (Colors > Curves...),

   

then duplicate the layer, then high pass in overlay mode (Filters > Enhance > High Pass...) on the duplicated top layer, and duplicate that high pass layer as your liking/necessary to "dramatize" (duplicated will stay in overlay mode).
There is more than two grooves...  Time to change it

Thank you guys. What's that: three or four different ways of doing it? Shows just how inept I am with Gimp. How could I have failed to find any of them?
They are all beaut clear pics, too. Just what I wanted.

Future will be different for I'll always know to turn to these methods.

I have a tap 'reseater' which grinds down the seat. I'm nervous about using it because I don't want to grind down too far.

Plumber tells me that's the trouble. You either grind down far enough or don't bother doing it because if you're not down far enough it'll just get worse and sure enough that's what's happened.

The last time I looked these gaps were like hairline cracks. That's what I thought they were. Cracks.

Now it seem water itself has stripped away the metal and widened the channels enormously.

I imagine that must be the power of water under pressure spurting past the metal. So that's what's happening on the inside. on the outside we see no sign of such pressure and spurting, such force. All we see is a lazy drip, drip, drip. What an education.

So I plan to grind down with the reseating tool and then install this 'replacement seat'.

I'm just confused again as I so often am because the 'replacement seat' kit wants me to grind down the seat until it is good, okay?
Well, yep, but if the seat is now good what do I want the replacement for?

Taps like that are caste bronze and are used so much they are cheap. I have a tap ready to replace any leaking outside tap and I inspect the one I take off at my leisure. The grooves in that old tap are caused by water erosion and if you have to pay for water, the lost water is worth more than the tap.
Australia is a dry continent and we mostly conserve water. I recently lost 10,000 litres when a leaking pipe drained a water tank overnight.
