In response:
It works fine with their supplied app. So far I have not had a needed to try it with any software.
GIMP is my first attempt.I have not had any problems with their app.
I read the Amazon review. What may have been the problem was my start- up problem.
The scanner worked okay with a short usb cable but not a long one. It needs to be close to the source.
I purchased a power hub. I plug the scanner into it then route that output to the box. No problems since then.
Given the comment about Windows 10 compatibility I will post a question to the 10 Windows Forum. I tried it first looking for hits on the LIDE 400 but none turned up. Posing the question as a driver issue, xSANE plugin,
such a question may bring some help?
Do you think I could get GIMP to recognize a digital camera (also Canon)? Would I need different drivers? Different procedures?
.
I have an old Linux machine. If push comes to shove I could use it, but it is so old I may need to run it under an older version of GIMP? How would that work?
I also have a HP entry level sheet fed scanner. Is it possible to connect it directly to GIMP?
How would that work under Linux? The project is so large that it might justify a new Linux machine?
Oh. I need the flatbed for documents that may not survive the sheet-feeding.
Without considering GIMP they two side x side work well.
\I forgot. When I first started I may have had it working under NAPS2. https://www.naps2.com/
I cannot recall right now but will give it fresh try if that info ins needed.
Thanks for any thoughts.
PS.
My goal, whichever way I get there, is setting up some sort of paradigm for enhancing contrast and legality of hand written narrative on 3-ring notebook paper. I have maybe over 10,000 pages like this that I want to digitize.
This archiving is a one-run for me. The scanner works fine for my everyday stuff so I do not need to changes out the scanner for that work, but would a different entry level scanner connect with GIMP and W10?
