Cannot Connect Canon LIDE 400 to GIMP
#5
I will need to piece this out.

Not sure where I was before but my current GIMP is 2.10.12
I was not aware that there are different versions under this?
Am I okay with this version?

I think it as been a year plus or minus since I last updated the Ubuntu machine. I rarely use it and mostly keep it for fall back and sentimental reasons. It is the first / only computer that I built from odd-bits. It runs on a P4D, with I think 2gig RAM. Not much in today’s terms. Do you think it would be adequate for a quick test?

I will try the HP with GIMP in the next day or two, then report back.

Sorry I was not very clear on my intent with the flat bed scan and the handwritten pages. I am still at a design level, with minimal skills for digital imaging.

All the papers are in three-ring notebooks. There certainly will be variability in the ink, density, etc. I speculate because of the variables that I may need to adjust the parameter as I march through each note book. Maybe not? Just set up a B&W scan that will cover all cases?

I plan to use the HP for the majority of the work.

If I hit snag or something needs profound adjustment I think setting that up in GIMP will be better than the HP app. I have hard time with both the HP and Canon apps because of font sizes and colors: I do not see so well and I am frequently at odds with ambient light too.

Macros could be great production helper.

My thoughts have been that as I march through the scans I could set up values that will cover a range of cases, then keep them on the ready for the next encounter with a similar one. Say something like tweak up the brightness, slightly reduce the contrast, alter the RGB values…..

I have done a couple of tests and the modification will not likely be severe or involved.

From other work I have a small collection of docs that would fit into the photo-restoration catagory. It may just be that culling out the problem doc as go then do them later as a separate task may be course?

My goal is getting rid of the weight and bulk. Right now I am over the 10,000 mark with other docs. I have stack of maybe 500 or so to finish this leg. There are other legs, but next I want to start getting a handle on the best track to deal with the fifty three ring notebooks.

I need to run. Way past time for dinner.

Thanks for any and all suggestion and your guidance.
