How can we create a Diamond texture like this ? I assume we have to use the Filter > Noise and then do something further. Any tips will be great.

Edit Reason: typo
)
My try
(1) Filters -> Render -> Noise -> Simplex Noise large value and reduce the opacity (2) Filters -> Generic -> Dilate to grow the lighter pixels (3) Duplicate the layer for a bumpmap and Filters -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur with a small value say, 1 (4) Back to the base layer, Filters -> Map -> Bumpmap Use the bumpmap as Input and adjust to suit. Experiment with Modes, I used multiply. If you want to apply that small vertical blur, chance to try the new Lens Blur filter (5) New layer, Make a map. Black for no blur, White is very blurred so go black to gray. (6) Filters -> Blur -> Lens Blur Use the blur map layer as input. Adjust to suit Again experiment with the mode. Those steps all in one: https://i.imgur.com/edbHoHJ.jpg

Thanks. I am having trouble with step no. 5. Mainly because I do not know how to create a 3 step blend. I know only with 2 points. FG and BG.

Very much in the eye of the beholder
For a very regular effect use the gradient tool in bilinear mode https://i.imgur.com/P51vlsE.jpg I wanted something a bit irregular so painted in black over a grey base with a fuzzy brush then gave that a good Gaussian blur. https://i.imgur.com/0eb4tUE.jpg Then used in Focus blur. As it happened I was not very happy with that, backed off (ctrl-z is your friend) painted in a bit more black, bit more blur and Focus blur again. Pays to experiment.

I give up. No matter what I do, I am not getting that glitter effect in the diamond pattern. Maybe I will try when I feel less exhausted.
Many thanks for your help. (06-26-2020, 10:53 AM)meetdilip Wrote: I give up. No matter what I do, I am not getting that glitter effect in the diamond pattern. The image you posted looks like it might have that.
Thanks. I am unable to locate the " Sharpen " option though.
Update : Found it. Mistook it for the resynthesiser option. I tried again. Any tips on 2 types of grain ? 1. White and big, bright 2. grey, fine and small

I was thinking of the regular Unsharp mask `Edit -> Enhance -> Sharpen (Unsharp Mask)
Gimp has a filter search option - the forward slash /? question mark key Type in a search term and see what is available. That might harden up those white pixels but 'sparkle' is difficult with a bitmap editor, usually needs a bit of movement (animation or video).

Thanks. Trying again.
