Well, there is a famous story in France where a conceptual artist got his open field exhibition nicked by a scrap metal merchant who thought the community would appreciate the cleanup.
OTOH I have some fondness for Calder's "stabiles" and in la Defense in Paris I find his "Red Spider" much more appealing than Miro's colored turds on the opposite side of the plaza. Agree, the spider is still recognizable, I thought the design of Miro's thing was made by some kids.
