Equations/Details of the Color Transformations

I am interested in the color transformations of the tools like brightness-contrast, hue-chroma, hue-saturation, saturation, exposure, color balance, color temperature, ... 

Do you know where I can find the details of these tools, in particular the mathematical equations behind them?

As far as I know, there is no "mathematical" documentation of the algorithms. But If reading the C code don't scare you, it's available online.
For gimp tools (like brightness-contrast, color balance) it's here :

Thank you for your reply tmanni. I will try to have a look at the code.

The color transformations that interest me are "standard" transformations present in all the photo editing software. Perhaps, there are also books that describe them. Do you know these books?
