Error while using Gmic for Krita
#1
HI,
I am trying to apply some filters from Gmic, but I get error like these. These errors mostly occur on color filters. Most other filters work fine. Any suggestions for solving this?
I have working network and when I try to acces given url on browser, I can access the files just fine.

I am using Gmic that comes with Krita. Is there an additional step to install/use Gmic?
I am on Windows 10. I am using Krita 4.3. I even tried it with Krita 4.4 alpha, but still got error. Honestly, This error has always been there for me since I started using Krita few years ago. I always thought maybe these filter are discontinued or something.
But I saw people using them on youtube tutorials, and I couldn’t access it. Sad
Is it something to do with my hardware? I have very old laptop. 4 gb RAM and nvidia geforce 820m 2gb.

I posted this on Krita forums and was directed here.

I wonder why they did that ?  The best place is https://discuss.pixls.us/  where David Tschumperle the gmic author can be found.

However my thoughts.

The version you are using is 2.7.1 which is about a year old.  You must have updated the filters sometime there are 522 showing.  A year is a long time in g'mic terms, current version is 2.9.1 and lots of changes with every update. One was a change in the way some of the filters are compressed. That might be the problem

If you are up to a little experiment, the attachment contains the old version grain filters. Unzip and put the 5 files xxxx.cimgz in the gmic user profile C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\gmic  Start up krita and gmic and see if the Degradations / Add Grain filter works.  50/50 chance and might prove something or nothing.

You could update from the gmic site http://www.gmic.eu  https://www.fosshub.com/GMIC.html?dwl=gm..._win64.zip  although if for some reason that does not connect to update the filters (now 544)  it might be worse.  Back up the old gmic_krita folder first as a precaution.

Does work. This in my Win10 VM https://i.imgur.com/Dj07r2Q.jpg

It's my bad, I didn't realize this was gimp forum. gmic forum search pointed me here, so I assumed it was. I have now posted this over gmic forum.

Copying the files worked. I can use the filters. Maybe I should manually download all the files for filters. Since it seems like network problem - gmic can't connect to file, but i can download it when I open the url in browser. I checked the folder, no other filter files were there. I tried adding Krita and gmic to firewall allowed applications. Didn't work.

Thanks for replying. Delete the thread if it breaks forum rules.

Not a problem, this is the section for non-gimp.

There are a **lot** of 'other' .cimgz files. 300+ photographic + lots for light effects .. etc
The gmic_cluts.gmz runs to 3.6 MB - very compressed. best of luck

edit: The link is there in the about section https://gmic.eu/gmic_all_data.zip 72 MB
