The G'MIC software, found here:

http://gmic.eu/download.html

has two filters labeled etch listed under Black and White and are named multi-layer etch and threshold etch.

I'm not sure what distribution of Linux you are using but, the easiest way to install G'MIC would probably be through whatever type of software repository your Linux distro uses.
