Your screenshot does not look like Gimp 2.8 ?

Using linux ?
Which linux (edit: looks like ubuntu) and more important which 'flavour' of Gimp. Is it from the distro repo / a 'flatpak' Gimp / a 'Snap' Gimp / maybe an appimage or did you compile yourself ? Looking at your screenshot again, is this a 'linux-in-a-chromebook'

You say Edit -> Preferences -> Window Management then 'Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Value' did not work ? Very Strange.

Look in Edit -> Preferences and any of the folders. That will give the location of your user profile.

That will vary for flatpak / snap installations but once you find it, go into that folder and rename the file gimprc (to something like gimprc-bak) Restart Gimp.

A more drastic solution is delete the whole Gimp profile. For a regular Gimp 2.10 that is /home/your-log-in-name/.config/GIMP/ Equivalent to a new installation, all settings are back to default.

Definitely a recent Gimp 2.10, the Tool options show the "Delete cropped pixels" option in the Crop tool.

Sorry about time delay.

Am now in Gimp 2.10. on MxLinux/debian. Was doing ok & but got same crazy bug, my Gimp has inversion Covid.
1-Interface was 'normal' but now all is somewhat inversed right vs left again & missing options the default interface layers options & other default areas [see screenshot]. I deleted & reloaded Gimp from gimp site & then also the debian repository. Gimp still in 'inverse', weird twilight zone. Fixable or frorever doomed? I will be scrambling around according to previous replies...

2-I still find icons too large but did i mention i am using Gimp on a large 32" tv screen, resolution= 1360x768. Tool thumbs are gitantic & take too much space. Tried a reset, makes icons small for a second until i press a button which makes it revert sizes, i'm confused.

Thanks for reading

'gimprc-bak' works well. Yes great.
*Solved
I wonder what's it doing ?

.config/GIMP/2.10/gimprc is your personal gimprc file.  Any variable defined in this file takes
precedence over the value defined in the system-wide /etc/gimp/2.0/gimprc

So, did you manage to make the icons smaller? I am also on a 33" monitor and I run HiDPI (200% scaling):

@crojack
gimprc just holds your settings, deleting or re-naming just forces Gimp to create a new default file. It is text, open it up and have a look at the contents.

If you set the toolbox icons to the smallest size but that does not 'stick' then while still in Edit > Preferences go in each of the three sections Tool Options / Window Management / Input Devices click on the "Save xxxx Now" OK Preferences, restart Gimp see if the settings stick.

A 32" tv has a resolution, you might have heard of 720p (1280 x 720) or 1020p (1920 x 1080) one thing it will not be is 1360x786 which is a typical resolution for an older laptop. you might want to check on the display resolution settings in MXlinux.
also
There is a setting in GimpEdit > Preferences > Interface > Display Monitor Resolution which is Detect Automatically and is measured in pixels-per-inch. You can enter it manually and/or you can use a 'calibration' screen Gimp docs are sadly lacking in detail. It is here: https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-pimping.ht...efs-dialog Scroll down to Figure 12.16. The Calibration dialog

Your tv is probably 1080p 33" is a diagonal size so the width is probably about 28" which would make a screen resolution of about 68 ppi
Probably will not make any difference but worth checking.
