Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts
#1
Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts from a project I did 3 years ago. I want to use the same font DejaVu Sans oblique on my new project. After not being ab;e to use the old font in my new project,  I loaded the old project and with the Text tool I selected the text with the font. I then changed the font with the text window on the right. I even changed back to the correct font and it's showing the wrong font.

Here are the snips for the wrong font and the correct font

I see that I still have Gimp 2.10 and I opened the old project and it's not correct either. So somehow the Fonts path must not be accurate. It's affecting both versions

If the font used in your old Gimp .xcf file no longer exists on your computer then the the font in the text layer is replaced by a system default font. Gimp does not keep anything other than the font name in the .xcf file.

Go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/dejavu/...p/download

A 5.5 MB zip archive Unzip and put the contents of the ttf folder in your Gimp fonts folder. C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.0\fonts

Whatever you do keep your old file safe and work with a backup. Open the backup and see if the text layer(s) are OK

I have multiple copies of the good file as a backup. I did everything exactly like you said: I closed Gimp 3.0, put the Tif fonts which were all named dejaVu in the Gimp 3.0 fonts folder. And after that I'm still having the same problems with the wrong system font being used.. I see that Gimp 2.10 fonts don't have the Deja Vu fonts in it's folder user Users. i just copied the fonts there too and Gimp 2.10 is still showing the wrong fonts. Although when I first open the good old file, initially it always shows the correct font in 3.0 and 2.1. maybe it's a Registry fix

I do not know.  Somewhere in the past you will have installed DejaVu fonts into Windows Version-whatever.  It might be the font family name has changed but providing the Text layer is there as a Text layer it is possible to change it.

Do the DejaVu fonts show in the fonts dock ?

Not sure what Windows 11 uses these days as the system default, used to be Tahoma (1) With text tool active select DevaVu in the fonts dock to change the font (2)

Yes it's in the Fonts block. Check out these pics

You can see both have the DejaVu in the font box, but one is the wrong font

In your example DejaVu looks quite different from mine showing the correct font. Yours shows a slight italic not the fancy script like mine is.

Actually, this computer is Win 10, sorry I got mixed up with my other computer.

here's my old deja vu font below. Is that different frm yours?

This the closest I can see in the DejaVu fonts.   DejaVuSansCondensed-BoldOblique.ttf

Sorry - not going to sign into anything Microsoft https://onedrive.live.com/?id=%2Fpersona...IMP&view=0

That's ok about MS, my initial snips were too large. I made it smaller this time. The DejaVu font is on the Lessons from the heart. I have a feeling that's not a true Gimp font. What do you think?
