I think.
I want to make a svg file/vector that can open in any image viewer. I have done it as an Inkscape svg but it is saved as the inkscape logo. I assume you need the program on your computer to open it. I tried uploading it to my Drive and opening it but couldn't. Is there a way I can do this in Inkscape or do I need another program?

If a svg required then it is Inkscape or possibly LibreOffice Draw (best for full page diagrams) otherwise not free such as  Ad*be PS / Illustrator or CorelDraw.

You will not get "any image viewer" to open svg. All depends on the viewer and the content of the svg.

I do not know how far along your Inkscape image is but you might need a little pre-save such as this. Much the same as Gimp crop-to-content. Inkscape will show a white background, not there in the svg. You can turn it off.

   

Then a save is simple except there are two types Inkscape svg which keeps some Inkscape add-ons that do not always show in a viewer or a basic Plain svg. Try that first as a 'more' universal option.

   

Then alas,  all depends on the viewer. This assortment from good to bad. The Web browser is ok, just shows transparency as if a white background.

This is it as a png. I just tried a Inkscape one again and  got a Microsoft edge html document. The other Inkscape one was a compressed SVG

Yes, depending your operating system and the software you've already installed on it, the browser (here in your case, MS Edge) could be the default viewer, usually a right click and "open with" (or similar) could change this behavior, Sorry I'm not on MS windows, thus "approximation" is happening.

I do really understand that. You can Save an Inkscape file in any number of formats. If you want a SVG choose svg.

   

A hunt around for a Windows image viewer that supports SVG. Really woefull.
The default is edge (or I think any modern web browser)  Irfanview with added plugins, opens a svg.
There is an extension to Windows explorer to show a svg icon. Tried it and it works https://www.maketecheasier.com/view-svg-...-explorer/

   

None of them depict transparency as a checker pattern.  I will attach the SVG I used as an example. Had to use svgz (compressed) due to 200 KB file size limit for svg

@ Pix, Microsoft Edge isn't my default browser. I don't even use it at all. It's just on my system through Windows. When I updated to Windows 10
My default image viewer is Irfanview.
My default browser is Chrome and I also use Opera and Firefox

I may have to go through the list and try them all.
My Irfanview doesn't open it. I may need a plugin of some sort or even upgrade that.
When I did finally get it to open in edge it was much smaller than it started out as.

I got the 64 bit irfanview and separate plugins package from here: https://www.irfanview.com/64bit.htm

The main page (for 32 bit) is here https://www.irfanview.com/plugins.htm with a list of supported image formats.

Firefox will certainly open an svg image although not very keen on a compressed svgz shown here first, then a regular svg. https://i.imgur.com/QWHyufF.mp4 Just drag into the address bar.
