I do really understand that. You can Save an Inkscape file in any number of formats. If you want a SVG choose svg.
A hunt around for a Windows image viewer that supports SVG. Really woefull.
The default is edge (or I think any modern web browser) Irfanview with added plugins, opens a svg.
There is an extension to Windows explorer to show a svg icon. Tried it and it works https://www.maketecheasier.com/view-svg-...-explorer/
None of them depict transparency as a checker pattern. I will attach the SVG I used as an example. Had to use svgz (compressed) due to 200 KB file size limit for svg
