How To Use The Gimp DDS Plugin
#1
This guide will show you how to use the DDS plugin. Lots of explanations concerning all of the BC/DXT and RGB types. Also explains how to create Cube Maps and Volume Maps. Includes sources at end of the document.

In PDF format.

Tested in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit using the latest stable Gimp release 2.8.22, and should work without issue with the upcoming release.

You can view or download it here.

Uploaded version 0.2. This new version contains a few corrections and adds explanations to each of the RGB types (bit depth, with or without alphas, etc).

Note that in Gimp 2.10, DDS support is standard, no plugin installation is necessary. But as it seems to be essentially the same code, the rest of the explanations are still valid.

Hi there,

I use gimp 2.10.14 on OSX.
I can't save any cubemap since this option is always greyed out for me.
My layers are named "negative x", "positive x" and so on, and all of them have an alpha channel.
It looks like they also have the same color depth.

What do I miss?  Huh
