How to remove entry from selection lists?
#1
I'm using GIMP 2.8.22 (Portable Apps Version) on Windows 7 and trying to use Edit>Preferences to customize Color Management.  There are various places where settings are selected from drop down lists.  When the setting you want isn't there you use an option which says "Select ... from disk ...".  I've been able to enter meaningless data by fumbling on the keyboard.  These mistaken values show up on the list but I cannot figure out how to remove them.  It seems to me that any kind of custom setting like this is something that one may want to change as in remove an entry that either becomes invalid or is no longer desired.  How is one to do that?

Find your "Gimp profile" using one of the techniques described here. Then open that directory in a file explorer and edit the profilerc file with a text editor and remove the unwanted lines (you can also possibly rename (and later erase if you don't notice ill side effects) that profilerc file, since I believe Gimp will recreate one when/if needed.

Thanks that does it for GIMP 2.8.22 but from what I've tried is not useful for GIMP 2.9.8.  While there appear to be revisions in how to invoke soft proofing (i.e., view>color management rather than view>display filter) going forward the need to specify and select ICC profiles is similar.  What might be the plan for future releases of GIMP?

The entries are remarkably persistent.

This in linux, Win should be the same. Started off by renaming the profilerc file to disable. screenshot https://i.imgur.com/e0HJ9UE.jpg

Strangely that had no effect, the entries were still there after restart.

Deleted the file, that did the trick. screenshot https://i.imgur.com/dGhq9qt.jpg

Gimp 2.9 profile in Windows should be C:\Users\appdata\roaming\GIMP\2.9

Yes, that seems to do it for Windows also.  Many thanks!
