GIMP - RGB image colours not working
#1
I am trying to edit an image (imported png saved as xcf), mode is already RGB but still the whole Colours menu is greyed out and none of the usual colour tools work (colorise, HUE-mode layers, etc). All layers remain stubbornly black and white. The colours menu is completely greyed out, mode is already RBG, file is xcf. Help!

I can not reproduce that at all

Can you give a screenshot of the whole Gimp interface, main window, layers dialogue, even the greyed out colours menu if you can manage it.

Otherwise, post the Gimp xcf file somewhere Dropbox for example.

The colour menu greyed out was a red herring - that's just because the layers were in groups. I still cannot change any colours at all though despite image mode being RGB

The problem is because it is black and no RGB

For each layer, enable the alpha lock then bucket fill with colour.

If the whole image the same colour, do a Layer -> New form visible, Alpha-lock that, fill with colour.

Colorize also works

Just curious, why is this in 32 bit?  I think internally GEGL is 16 float.  I am no expert, but I wonder why 32.

Internally, GEGL is 32-bit ("float" type of Intel processors). 16-bit FP (aka half-precision) is a recent invention used to store imagery (native type in some 3D video cards) and has no native support in the X86 processors.

The alpha lock + bucket trick works, thanks so much!! Colorise does not seem to work for me but I am happy with filling it manually given it is such a small image. It is 32 just because I was playing around with settings out of desperation (am a beginner), it is usually 8...
