Which version of linux and also version of Gimp. Some of the newer linux distributions come with python 3 and without the gimp-python (python 2) package. Example Mint 20. No python, no python plugins.

Python xxxx.py for Gimp are plugins and go in your Gimp user profile, usually ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins/ (not scripts which are for xxxx.scm )
