How to grid view when opening images?

Even better, the whole tools' box area works just fine (so no need to aim to a tiny row), thus allowing you to remove Wilber and get more real estate  Wink

   

If it's the first image, you can drop it directly in the canvas.

EDIT, just crossed my mind if you're interested to get more real estate (useful for lengthy Tool Options list):

Go to Edit ➤ Preferences a window opens Interface ➤ Toolbox un-tick Show GIMP logo (drag-n-drop target)
