How to remove someone from a picture?
#1
hello all! so i'm extremely new to photo editing but i was given a task to edit someone out of a photo haha. i did a bit of digging and came across the Resynthesizer tool, using the Heal Selection subtool. i've gone ahead and did what this thread https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Resynt...or-Windows said to do, but when i open up Gimp, i don't have Heal Selection under Enhance, but i do have Resynthesizer under Map. what am i doing wrong?

thanks

You should have 10 files in the plug-ins folder of your gimp profile.
plugin-heal-selection.py
plugin-heal-transparency.py
plugin-map-style.py
plugin-render-texture.py
plugin-resynth-enlarge.py
plugin-resynth-fill-pattern.py
plugin-resynth-sharpen.py
plugin-uncrop.py
resynthesizer-gui.exe
resynthesizer.exe
Are they all there?

For Windows, your gimp profile is something like:
C:/Users/YourName/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins

@timoseewho

Your profile does not give details of the version of Gimp used and platform (Windows, linux, OSX...)

Can you give those details + where you got the resynthesizer + plugin-heal-selection.py plugins.

@Blighty yea, https://imgur.com/a/B0CRP is what it looks right now. is there something i need to be installing or have installed to get these scripts to work? or is it simply have Gimp, drag these files in the folder, and let Gimp do its magic? i do see the scripts loading when i open up Gimp

@rich2005 oh i'm sorry! it's v2.8.18 and i'm running Win10-64. i got the initial Resynthesizer here http://www.mediafire.com/file/gwc928wmwt..._32_64.zip (both Resynthesizer and plugins are in there)

thanks!

I can not reproduce the problem. I can see no problem with the files you have installed. File size looks correct.

A test in a Win10 64 bit (Virtual Machine) put in gmic_gimp just in case that has a bearing.

This showing the unzipped archive and the installed files, only heal-selection as a first check. (I did put the other python plugins in later, makes no difference). https://i.imgur.com/30y6yhs.jpg

All in one screenshot: Works ok.
The only thing I can think of is if the file plugin-heal-selection.py has been disabled by an anti-virus or corrupted in some way. Win 10 defender IMHO is a bit over-zealous.

I wonder if there is some language problem somewhere? Seems improbable but obviously some mixed latin/chinese characters in your screenshot.

On your system the two exe files have sizes of 54k and 49k
Mine are 20k and 17k

I got mine from here: http://registry.gimp.org/node/27986 several years ago.

Did you perhaps download a linux version instead of a windows version?

No. Those are correct 64 bit windows versions. (look at the screenshot resynthesizer.exe definitely not linux) I know "if it aint broke don't fix it" but consider upgrading. That old version 1.0 from the Gimp registry is known to cause problems.

edit: Using Gimp 2.8.18 - I can not recall any serious problems with that version but the current one is 2.8.22.

Thanks Rich. Which is the recommended site to get the new version?

The one the OP used http://www.mediafire.com/file/gwc928wmwt..._32_64.zip

Still a few years old. Had 5676 downloads so it must work for somebody (or 5675 disappointed ones)

Just wondering if the OP has another version, maybe from one of those multi-packages installed. Unlikely but possible.

Installed. Quick test shows everything working.
