How to use nik collection windows 11 and GIMP 2.10
#1
I have looked everywhere for help on how to use the Nik collection within GIMP 2.10 (as a filter set) but nothing seems to work.  I am using Windows 11. I have found several sources that say that this IS possible but so far nothing works. I would appreciate any help.

I use it in windows 10. Still have the 'free' one. Put all your folders into your user plugins folder, then it -  'Nik Collection', should show up in the filters menu near the bottom. Use it as any filter.
PS. you may need to restart your gimp before it shows up.

I mostly use define for noise removal and silver efex for black and white photos

The NIK filters are not Gimp plug-ins. They are Ad*be PS filters that do not natively work in Gimp.
There is a work-around using a Gimp plugin shellout.py

I have installed these in the dim-n-distant past  Wink  Sort of work although from memory there was a registration nag.

If you have the installer  - about 450 MB  and the modified Gimp python plugins example: NIK-Define2.py (some for Gimp 2.10 here: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Nik-co...2#pid38062 )

It might work, or it might not. It might be a Windows 11 thing.  It is a monster.

As well as the PS .8bf plugins (not used) there are Windows .exe files for each plugin and that is what the Gimp plugins use via the python plugins.

My advice is, do not bother. You can get the same results using Gimp but by different routes. See what is possible using the gmic Gimp plugin.

Angry I'm concerned about the forced switch to Windows 11 at the end of 2025. Still happy with Windows 10. I try to continue using this operating system after 2025.
