Image scaling problem

I don't know what is happening or what to call it, so, if you could bear with me a moment while I explain...


I made a kdp book cover in Canva. Uploaded it to kdp and was informed that the size was wrong (by only.044) Ok.

I took the image to my Gimp program (v. 2.10.24). Scaled it. Checked image properties and THE SIZE IS CORRECT, 12.565 x 9.25.

Took it to kdp and was informed that it was now VERY SMALL. It even showed a much smaller image in the preview.

WHERE did that come from? Did GIMP lie to me about the size of the finished output???

WTH is going on??
This has happened more than once with different images.

Is it me? Am I missing some important point?

Probably you did not take the image resolution into account. Gimp works in pixels not inches.

Then give more details of your image. If you can give the first 3 lines of Image -> Image Properties like this (do not worry about units,  imperial or metric are ok)  and we can sort it from there.

With a brief read-thru (Believe me, I will thoroughly study it), I think I'm getting a glimmer of the problem. Screenshot attached.

I cant try that canva (without signing up that is) site so I do not know what image resolution they use
However from your screen shot you now have an image 2000 x 1477 pix and a print size of 12.5 x 9.232 inches

That gives a print resolution of 2000 / 12.5 = 160 pixels per inch (ppi aka dpi)

Kindle recommend 300 ppi so your image should really be (height and width x 300) 3750 pix x 2770 pix

This is from the guidelines
If the marketing cover image size is smaller than the 2560 x 1600 recommendation, a reminder message ... on the website. If your cover image is smaller than the recommended size, Amazon strongly recommends ... that you create a new image that meets the size requirements. Do not stretch the image to meet the size

So the existing image is on the small size, East enough to scale it but it will tend to degrade the image.
Image -> Scale Image and set the pixels (do not use inches) to 3750 x 2770
then to correct the ppi
Image -> Print Size and set the x and y resolution to 300 pixels/in This is to tell the printer that the size is 12.5 x 9.232 inches, does not change the image in any way.

That is a bit peculiar. What format did you use ? png / jpeg / PDF or ...something else. It might be an embeded thumbnail they used or ...something else, difficult to say without the image.
