You are soon learning that every image is different and has to be considered on its own.
A couple of possibilities
Fill a selection on a transparent layer and go through the layer modes to see how they interact (all good practice for you). LCH color might work, although it gives the white characters a pink tinge. https://i.imgur.com/QVVPiDV.jpg
A GEGL tool `Tools -> GEGL Operation -> Color Warp. Careful selection of top surface and edge and apply suitable colours to each. https://i.imgur.com/6xX7dPo.jpg
