Lost eraser control
#1
I am running Gimp 2.10 on a Windows 10 system.  I have completed two graphics project with great success.  In the middle of my third project, the brush/eraser stopped functioning.  All of the brush, pencil and eraser options freeze up after a short time.  After about a 1/4” or so into drawing a line, it stops. Sometimes it will let me continue after some time.  Other times it won’t.  Other functions of Gimp seem to work alright.  The frustrating thing is that it was working fine. It doesn’t matter if it is a new project or editing an old one.  Any help would be appreciated.

My tuppenceworth. Sometime you changed some of the brush settings, maybe a dynamic is in effect. By default Gimp will remember existing settings between sessions.

Try reseting the tool options Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options -> General & click on Reset Saved Tool Options to Default Values

Ok and restart Gimp, see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the idea, but it didn’t work. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling gimp with no change.

That very rarely works because the Gimp settings are not in the installation folder they are held in your Gimp 2.10 user profile.

C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\

A couple of questions. Did you upgrade from Gimp 2.8? Do you use a graphics tablet?

Without knowledge of your settings, the next step is disable that folder.

Rename it to say,  C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10-backup (If you have a existing C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8 disable that as well)

Restart Gimp and it makes a new default user profile with all default settings.

On the other hand, as is sometimes pointed out, it could be a hardware problem with the mouse.

To clarify, I am using Gimp 10.10. It was a new install, not an upgrade from a previous version. My system is a Lenovo Yoga with Windows 10. The problem occurs weather I am in standard keyboard mode or tablet mode on the Lenovo. The frustrating thing is that Gimp was working perfectly on earlier projects using various input devices. To further clarify, it's not that the drawing tools don't work as all, but that they stop mid-stroke weather it is a paintbrush, pencil, or eraser. I will try your suggestion. Thanks.
