Print A6 data cards from pdf file
#1
Hi
I was hoping someone could help me.
I am trying to import a Warhammer 40k kill team data card download as an pdf and simply print it out on size A6 paper.
I would also like to create a template for future data cards.
I have tried simply changing the printer properties in gimp and the printer to match but I keep getting a paper size error (E1) on my HP printer.
I am new to Gimp.

Any help would be appreciated

Caveat - I know zero about computer games.
Really need more information on what you intend to print. If you can zip and attach your PDF or attach a full screenshot in Gimp. Open Image -> Print Size before taking the screenshot. Looking for image pixel size and printing size. Something like this.

Again. What does that look like ?

A long time since I had an HP printer. The solution is usually in the HP printer driver settings. Often a there is a setting "Shrink to size"  or "Print full size" and that might not be possible.

Hi

Thank you kindly for the reply.
Please find attached a copy of the pdf data card.

Hope this helps - just need to know what i need to do to enable me to print to A6 and save the setting as the attached example is the same for the rest of my intended data cards.

Thanks again

Jase

It might not be possible to print your card to A6 using Gimp.

There is a long standing Windows print bug which forces the paper size to USLetter/A4 depending on region.
This is typical https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/9394 and what it says is:

Set File->Page setup to 4x6 portrait and click OK
Select File-> Print
Printer complains that 4x6 is loaded, but letter is required.…
Expected result: Image prints on 4x6 paper
Actual result: Printer (HP Office Jet Pro 7740) reports paper size mismatch error
------
Guessing that is a similar error as your HP printer.  Still no fix that I can see, with Gimp 3.0

The usual solution is use some other program for printing. Often LibreOffice is advised, but it is a big program to use just for printing.  You could try a PDF viewer program for printing. If you already have on try it out otherwise as an example https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/downloa...pdf-viewer  This has one plus over others It will open other image formats such as PNG. Only one file, 16 MB. If it works great, otherwise dump it.

What ever you use, make sure the printer driver settings match your requirements.

I do not have a HP, this is my Brother printer, but whatever HP uses, look out for Paper Size (A6)    Orientation - (portrait/landscape)    Scaling (fit to size)  Those settings might be in both dialogues. (1) PDF reader (2) Printer Settings.  Looks more complicated than it is. Take one section at a time.

-------------------------
Making a template. It depends how much you need to insert. Templates are usually multilayer files, so always Save as a Gimp .xcf file.
Making one from your example. It does suffer from artifacts, it might have been a jpeg image at one time. So i recommend replacing the striped background.  There was no information on fonts in the PDF, it is all graphic files, but I found a reasonable match. Look for RoadGeek 2005.

These tend to be large files but attached Gimp xcf might get you started. Big learning curve for a new user.
