The problem is what your printer prints. And I'm even surprised that you didn't get any margins...
Did you print directly from Gimp or did you export the image to print it with a dedicated application (like Windows image viewer)?
Otherwise, what works is the overlap-and-cut technique used for (physical) wallpaper, that I recently described here (and I'm sure you'll find plenty of YT videos).
