RawTherapee plugin
#1
Hi
New member, first post Smile I want to replace Adobe with Gimp and RawTherapee but I can't get them to talk to one another. What am I doing wrong? I am using a 2015 macbook running Monteray OS. Any help would be gratefully received but please bear in mind that I am not massively tech savvy. Thanks Smile

Since you are using MacOS and not many users on this forum, I advise posting the same on https://discuss.pixls.us/ forum.

Whatever OS you use, Gimp has to "find" the RT installation so that the built-in RAW plugin opens the image in RT before sending it back to Gimp when RT closes. This is know not to work in the past. AFAIK one of the RT developers does post on pixls.us Give details of your DNG image version as well, that might be the issue.

Hi, first make sure you have the right settings in Gimp > Settings > ...
The string about Rawtherapee must appear in the window and must be in the first place. If it is not in the first place highlight it with a mouse click, press OK and close and restart Gimp.

Thanks for the reply. A mac user has replied, but I will still check out that forum. The knowledge of contributors is the difference between success and tearing what's left of your hair out Smile

Charlie, you may well turn out to be a life saver. Can I type it in exactly as it appears on your screenshot? I can't see any location specific info in the path. I managed to link RawTherapee with Gimp, meaning I can open raws in RT then, after some basic fiddling, can send it to gimp, but I want to set up full functionality. I am ditching Lightroom once and for all and am eager to start learning Gimp, but can't totally settle to that while I am trying to get it to work Smile

Unfortunately no, it wouldn't work.
The string related to Rawtherapee, as well as the one related to Darktable appear automatically during the installation process of the programs.
If it doesn't work for you I can only advise you to try to re-install Rawtherapee 5.11 first and then Gimp 3.0.2
Make sure you have Rawtherapee 5.11 because for me who use Darktable it didn't work with version 4.8 and instead works with 5.1.
Eventually also try Darktable.

Edit:
Sorry but I did some tests and I verified that:
Setting rawtherapee as default to load RAW files in Gimp the corresponding string does not move to the first place as I said, but the setting is correct anyway.
Unfortunately with Rawtherapee 5.11 it does not work for me either, it gives me two error messages and the program does not load the RAW file.

If you only need it as a plug-in to load RAW files try with Darktable, it works for me,

I have tried reinstalling but no joy. Also, my Mac won't install dark table as it cannot verify where it came from. Macbooks are nice, but Windows is so much easier Smile I have the option of opening in RT then sending to Gimp, that works fairly well. I will have another go at Darktable though

You can install Darktable itself, by finding the right options in your Mac operating system: System Settings > Privacy and Security > Security ...
