Removing newsprint/halftone artifacts

I see there are threads on how to add a newsprint/halftone effect, is there a way to remove or lessen it?

The GMIC filter suite has two "Descreen" filters.

First thing I thought of was descreen too in GMIC

I used descreen once on a photo with a flyscreen in it. Got rid of it!
