I am sure the Krita docs will give details of the algorithm used. Maybe it rotates and applies a zealous crop as it goes along. Leave that to you

 

@GMP dont' follow my #3 post about Menu > Layer > Layer to whatever I said, but instead time to time do > Menu > Layer > Crop to Content, you won't loose the parts outside of the canvas
