Search in layers
#1
Hi. Im working in the background of a book cover. Im using intensively layers and groups to keep all the elements in order. Very nice!  I named groups, and some key elements. As number of elements increase i wonder if there is some way to search them by name. AFAIK there is no that feature, but maybe i´m wrong, and you can give me some info about this.

Not something I am really familiar with.
For Gimp 3.0.4  Top of the layers dock. You might have to widen the dock for it to show. A search icon

Click on that for an entry box, it will find a layer group name or an individual layer name.  Looks like it is not case sensitive and finds a partial name as well.
Edit: Finally found the docs page: https://docs.gimp.org/3.0/en/gimp-dialog...cture.html look for the paragraph Search layers and Saved searches

Hi Rich! Thanks very much!! Really, a hidden feature. I need to wide the docker to 740 pixels to be shown! Thats not really a good thing, the search button must be there always. I guess i cant do nothing to change it location.
But anyway, it
s nice to have it there.

Update: the bug, or issue, is related to the name of layers. If you have layers with large names, usually happens when you just leave the layer with the file name of a imported image, the search button will locate itself at the end of the most large layer name. That`s the reason i needed to enlarge my docker so much. I tried it with a blank document, the search button is visible, near the other three buttons for fx, lock and visibility.

Yes, I have been playing around with the layer search, hoping for a shortcut (none) and a search by color tag (none).

It might be difficult to see but you should have scroll bars - bottom and side of the layer dock. Scroll to the right side and the search icon shows.  The other one is - you can use a wild card in the search for name.

Thanks, that is a great help!. Even that, i believe that the search button could following the other three icons.
