Make items pop up
#1
Hi, Wondering whether there is any way to make the item popup in GIMP. Something 3D ish

Like the stars popping out a bit in the above image. Thanks.

Gimp is not a 3D image maker but it can simulate. Like 3D text.
Have you tried different layer modes after duplicating the layer? Some will make the white stand out more

Best ones are Dodge, Multiply, Linear Burn, Overlay & Grain Merge - I like this one the best

Too uniform. For that image probably introduce some movement as an animation:

For something with a more distinct foreground there is the 'toy' plugin. There is an example here https://librearts.org/2011/11/toy-plug-i...ift-fakes/   This is a compiled plugin, there are versions for Win and linux.

Big Grin This plugin is not needed anymore... GIMP has it from 2.10.22(if I recall the correct version), Filters ➤ Blur ➤ Focus Blur with control directly on the canvas

Yeah, that gets there as well, just suggesting the old toy plugin as 'good fun'

Linux version attached, works here: kubuntu 20.04 / Gimp 2.10.32
