There is a good chance that there will be other issues as well, pdf required in CMYK colorspace for example.
A better solution than on-line PDF making, is using Scribus to produce the document but that is a learning curve and a half.
Then what is the Windows version? OP might be using Gimp 2.6 for drawing tablet reasons, on a modern computer. (then install Gimp 2.8/2.10 in parallel or even better dual boot linux) or might be using a 12 year old WinXP (I have one of those for video grabbing )
