Editing window dimensions ?

when I want to edit a layer/slice of an image I sometimes get a dotted window exactly around the part I want to edit and sometimes a window so large that the edges are far out of the screen.
I would always want a window exactly around the part I want to edit. I don't understand what determines this?

There is not really an editing window 'as-such' in Gimp. The yellow dotted window I assume you see is the active layer boundary.
This is 3 images of different sizes opened as layers. Put in the boundary marks, but you would normally only see the one belonging to the active layer. https://i.imgur.com/Ej5AnDY.jpg and other layers can have visibility off. You can make a rectangular selection, that shows as a black/white dotted line and constrains the editing to the selection. The closest I can get is make a selection, copy and paste as a new image. Then when complete, copy and paste back in the original selection. Very subject to user-error if you are not careful. |
