Write on beach sand
#1
I got the beginner instructions from another forum. Thanks to Racer-x

this is my work so far. Sadly, I am not able to imitate the depth. I am supposed to use the text as Bump map, which I do not know how. So I played with colour Levels and Curve. I like this, but a feel of depth would be nice. Thanks.

Procedure so far

1. Text in Black
2. Select grow 1px, fill it with White on a layer below it

Select black and remove it from the white layer so that only the white border remains.

3. Noise > Spread for white

4. Then I am supposed to merge black and white and use it as a Bump map.

Thanks. It was my lack of experience with Bump map. I moved the beach layer above the merged layer. Then Filters >Map > Bump map

The popup has an option called Aux Input which allows us to select layers inside GIMP. I used the merged layer which is black plus white(noise-spread). With some adjusting, I got a neat result. Attaching the same

Ok, the bump map window in this video is from 2010 > https://youtu.be/AC13I91213M?t=350

See on the screenshot how to select the bump map nowadays (each click will open the next window), sliders are the same

It is just a replace - background with a little tweak.

The hardest part is finding an animation of the sea (or a video to disassemble)
Various scripts used, all been mentioned before, a bulk colour-to-alpha / a bulk add background to layers

FWIW: two and a half minutes:  https://youtu.be/zYtNfaHPU9Y

Very useful. Thanks.

A small part if you want to attend. The come in wave will clear the writing. Smile

I know, but it lengthens the procedure, as with most things Gimp there are several ways to make the animation.

That animation is a bit on the long side, need thinning and what you can try is instead of merging the single background layer is make another image (same number of layers as the semi-transparent sea) and fade the writing out over the required frames.
Then merge the two files. You can do that with Ofnuts merge layer plugin.

Not on that computer at the moment. Will look at it later.
