Magic select tool not working
#1
All,

Im trying to select with the magic select tool.  When I initially click I get the outline of the selection but as soon as I let go of the mouse button the selection goes away.  I do have show selection on under view, Im on replace selection for options of tool, my threshold is 15%.  Im at a loss.  Any help is appreciated.  I even reinstalled GIMP.  Im running 2.10.14

Cant figure out how to add an attachment.....

Excuse me: it can be my sight, but I can't see in you video that you ever have a selection.
After positioning your mouse, the procedure is:
- click to select
- a border of 'marching ants' encircles selected pixels.
At least, that works in Windows...

Carmen,

Thank you. I just retried and I found something different.

When I click on the tool and it comes up with an initial selection. I release my mouse and it goes away. I immediately go to Edit->Cut and it removes what was selected. So it appears that the selection occurred but I dont see any marching ants or any selection. I just have to trust that it selected the right info. As you can see in the picture, show selection is turned on.

BTW, Im on a Mac with the latest OS. Big Sur 11.0.1

Thanks
Ray

Could be the latest, greated MacOS issue Wink or a best guess. Whatever you should check the selection mode

The fuzzy select tool is in addition mode, see the little + sign next to the cursor.
If there is already a larger selection in place then adding to the selection does nothing.
either
Turn all existing selections off. Select -> None then use the fuzzy select in addition mode
or
Use the fuzzy select tool in replace mode, (the first, left side, mode icon)

Also, check that the selection is visible (View>Show selection), or hit Ctrl-T to toggle the visibility.

Yes, considering the OP's second post on cutting the selection. Difficult to see from the OP's video but the selection does show then vanish and that will happen when selection is off in the view menu. However the OP's video does show the tool in addition mode.

edit: Not looking very promising from this post https://www.reddit.com/r/GIMP/comments/k...le_on_mac/
