Long shadow with shapes
#1
Hello all,

I am a new GIMP user, with very little editing experience. I've used GIMP off and on for a while, but some of the concepts/terms still confuse me. I've mostly followed tutorials online to get my results.

I'm trying to use the Long Shadow light effects on some star shapes but can't get it to work. I have gotten it to work on text from a video I found, but I can't get it to work with the star brush. Unsure what I am doing wrong. Effectively I am re-creating this old Wonder Woman graphic

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You might get some sort of effect by using more than one layer.

Some screenshots for reference: https://i.imgur.com/Uh8s8Du.jpg

Start off with a "stars" layer (1) Duplicated a couple of times and long shadow applied (2)
Separate layer with most of the stars erased leaving just the points and long shadow appiled (3)
The two layers visible (4) Best done in a layer group.

However the long shadow filter will not give you a perspective view tapering to a viewpoint.

Oh that's beautiful! I'll try doing that. However my initial problem exists...long shadow doesn't work when I try and apply it to the star.

Also I love the tapering aspect that's super cool.

Think about it. Long shadow works with text because the text is solid on a transparent layer.

Paint your stars, I used the star brush as well, on a new transparent layer. Then apply the long shadow filter.
