OSX is a real PITA.

This problem has been reported before and supposedly fixed.
There is a bug report here https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770708

Typical report, answered by a big silence, http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-use...s-x-sierra The usual reply, install the latest Gimp.

A search brings up this old post, but I wonder if it works? Involves editing OSX system preferences. https://sourceforge.net/p/gimponosx/support-requests/9/ worth investigating.

Other than that, can you try an alternative version of Gimp for OSX
