I created the paths for each line of text individually which resulted in the words not having the same bend/not being aligned that well.

I would define a single envelope path, then bend each path in turn using that envelope (so they overlap in position), and then move the bent paths vertically to their final position.

   

If you have a longer line, just make the envelope wide enough to cover all the paths
