Well the obvious is avoid sharp bends, however what you need is Ofnuts ofn-text-along-path.py plugin (just down from the top of the list) here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pat...s/scripts/
Unzip, read the included documentation. (3) on the screenshot.
(1) Is the vanilla text-along-path as you already have.
(2) Is a slight improvement, force the text path above the line with a final carriage-return (CR) / enter key whatever you want to call it. This one filled using Edit -> Fill Path.
The holes in the filled text, I have seen that before, usually comes from a path imported from some other application. I think Ofnuts has a plugin to fix that as well, but probably not needed if you use the ofn-text-along-path.py plugin.
