size of image in editing window
#1
Photo
Hi first time user here, have (rarely) used the P8888shop (sorry if thats a swear word) before but I am finding Gimp (3.0.2.1) a Steep learning curve.

All I am trying to do at the moment is find out how to make an image appear full size in the editing window rather than it being so fiddly small.  I found something onling about scaling but I am not trying to change the size of the image, I just want it to show as large as the window will allow without changing aspect ratio. In other software there is a simple "show image to window size" or something like that.

I am running W11 Pro 64bit patched upto date.

I have attached an example picture which shows how much unused space in the editing window is wasted. I cant believe this needs more than a single "click" somewhere to make this the default??

Any help appreciated.

Tried View > Zoom > Fill window? Or Ctrl-mousewheel to zoom in. I don't think there is a setting somewhere to open images with more than 100% zoom.

Thanks for the reply, I did manage to find that setting. To be honest the software is such hard work to try and use as a beginner that its simply not worthwhile and I am abandoning it.

I will try a couple of others but it seems these open source programmes are designed only for experianced people that use them commercially or as a Very serious hobbist (or maybe I just dont have as much "spare" time as most?)

I would simply buy a recent version of photoshop (that works with W11) but I object to their subscription scheme where you "rent" the product for 3 years and then lose it; that is simply greed and pushes people to use pirated software. Their last lifetime product was the 2024 version but its not actually available anywhere. A couple of online stores Say they have it but if you are careful they have hidden notes saying "out of stock, will advise when it comes back in", which will be never since Adobe recalled it after 2025 was issued.

Anyway, thanks again for your reply.

Thanks again
