Pattern resources

Where are your go to sites for patterns/textures?  Looking around the web, there seem to be numerous places these can be downloaded.  Can anyone recommend a good resource for these?

And when a pattern has been found that is liked, is it a simple case of right click and save, then put it in the Pattern Folder?  Is there a better way to add these?

It seems that many of the old sites have gone, trawled up by p*int*rst and similar. Still some good source material in deviantart although you do have to register these days. https://www.deviantart.com/search?q=patterns and this is still working http://texturelib.com/

You can use jpeg and png formats (even bmp if you want) just put them in your Gimp User patterns folder. The difference with a .pat file is the built-in file description. jpeg's and png's just use their file name.

Some downloads that are listed as patterns are really images in their own right, full 'old paper with burnt edges' for example. Not really useful as a pattern.
