Additional cartoonify plugins? - Kasseo - 04-21-2019 Hi. I'm new and i would like to use GIMP to make realistic images look cartoon-like. The filters present don't quite cut it. GIMPressionist looks promising, but i can't find an option to give it a full-screen preview. Without one, i would have to open and close the window after every minor change or test. Anybody who has experience with this and could help me out? Example based on Scarlet Johansson: RE: Additional cartoonify plugins? - rich2005 - 04-21-2019 Quote: ..i would like to use GIMP to make realistic images look cartoon-like... Your example is hand drawn. No way you will get that from a photograph. Quote:...GIMPressionist looks promising, but i can't find an option to give it a full-screen preview. Without one, i would have to open and close the window after every minor change or test. That is going to be the case with most old plugins. Get used to open/close until everything is converted to GEGL functions (do not hold your breath) Some are better than others, Gmic for example has quite a large preview window. EDIT: Immediately make a liar of myself. The Gimp 2.10 Filters -> Artistic -> Cartoon is GEGL https://i.imgur.com/vM6jg5q.jpg Quote:...Anybody who has experience with this and could help me out?.. Not really my thing, but a couple of suggestions Gmic Cartoon filter in the Artistic section see: http://www.gmic.eu for the download. EDIT: another gmic example, this one wild-cartoonizer in the testing section. Give you some idea of the gmic dialogue https://i.imgur.com/M3CQmJ1.jpg also - dreamy-watercolor https://i.imgur.com/tAvIRIK.jpg - several in the gmic plugin that give this type of effect. A really old plugin, cartoonizer Attached the Windows 64 bit version: Unzip put cartoonizer.exe in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins examples: https://i.imgur.com/IF1nb4u.jpg RE: Additional cartoonify plugins? - skinbus - 04-25-2019 (04-21-2019, 01:41 PM)rich2005 Wrote:Quote: ..i would like to use GIMP to make realistic images look cartoon-like... Have you tried GMIC? If you haven't seen it it's a set of 485 filters with all the effects you could ever want. I only found it recently & they do a great job. The only drawback is that it's full size preview isn't very large & on a few, the effect doesn't turn out exactly like the preview but you should check it out. I haven't tried the cartoon filter so I can't really comment on it's effectiveness. Just google for download. RE: Additional cartoonify plugins? - Kasseo - 05-16-2019 Alrighty, thanks for the help, gonna try it out. RE: Additional cartoonify plugins? - cli345 - 04-24-2021 Hello, I suggest trying my "photo to cartoon" plug-in https://github.com/cl4cnam/gimp_cartoon_plugin. It needs G'MIC. It is discussed at gimpchat.com in this thread. It is also available at https://www.gimpscripts.net/2021/04/photo-to-cartoon-plugin.html. Enjoy ! Here is a result: RE: Additional cartoonify plugins? - rickk - 04-24-2021 (04-21-2019, 01:41 PM)rich2005 Wrote: Gmic Cartoon filter in the Artistic section see: http://www.gmic.eu for the download. From the second I installed Gmic (windows) I now get error messages when launching Gimp that a "procedure entry point _ZNSt3pmr25monotonic_buffer_resourceD1Ev could not be located" for libstdc++-6.dll ...and efforts to update the DLL did not improve things. But, the online version of Gmic works pretty well, I like it! The installer correctly puts the gmic folder in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins There was (is) a problem with the latest Windows Gimp 2.10.24-rev3, fixed with a new version of the gimp_gmic_qt package. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/6670 I have not seen a libstdc++-6.dll problem for some time, used to be multiple different versions so worth a search to see how many you have. Not much help, but just used the gimp_gmic_qt version (version 2.9.7) installer in a Win10 / Gimp 2.10.24-rev3 and works fine. Rich, your thoughts and insight are greatly appreciated!! After I physically looked in all the usual windows system directories for that specific DLL and found none, I searched the entire drive and found 2 copies ....one in C:\programfiles\gimp2\32\bin and one in C:\programfiles\gimp2\bin Both claiming to have been on my system since about the time I upgraded from Gimp 2.8 to 2.10.14, Curiously, one file was about 200 K larger than the other. I replaced both with the latest available version, and that resulted in a gimp that refused to launch at all. Luckily I kept the old ones, and returned them to their rightful locations, and am back to a gimp that launches, but with the above listed error message. Mulling it over, I'm starting to wonder if there is some problem with a function or script in gmic called "monotonic"? I haven't even looked yet....but seeing that word structure in the error message makes me suspect it is worth a closer look. And yeah, I used the windows installer.exe method to install. RE: Additional cartoonify plugins? - rich2005 - 04-25-2021 There will be two versions of libstdc++... in Gimp one 32 bit and the other 64 bit. I was thinking more about a conflict in the main Windows system. However that is not the problem. You gave the solution, Gimp 2.10.14 The latest gmic_gimp_qt (2.9.7) was 'fixed' for Gimp 2.10.24 (see that bug report) and that breaks it for Gimp 2.10.14. I can get that error message. Use the previous version of gimp_gmic_qt https://gmic.eu/files/windows/gmic_2.9.6_gimp2.10_win64.exe Delete the whole gmic_gimp_qt folder in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins and install the 2.9.6 version. RE: Additional cartoonify plugins? - rickk - 04-25-2021 Welp, looks like you resolved this nicely, greatly appreciated!! Thanks! I'm holding onto that older version of gimp on my windows system, as a hedge against the Python 2 vs Python 3 dilemma with some older plugins. |
