Must be for Windows, because on Unix-like systems, you only need to mark one as executable.

But in folder /home/?????/.local/share/flatpak/app/org.gimp.GIMP/x86_64/beta/active/files/lib/gimp/2.99/extensions/org.gimp.extension.goat-exercises there are a number of files which are executable.

The folder also includes org.gimp.extension.goat-exercises.metainfo.xml which is not executable but does contain a list of the executable files within the folder. That's why I was thinking that GIMP was relying on a file with a name that matched the folder name in order to know what to run.
