^^ I have to say LOL!. The obvious is obvious unless you are me. Thank you Blighty. This is big steps for me so I'm very grateful. I have spent a good few hours this afternoon trying things out, I wouldn't ask if I haven't tried first.
Can I ask how to keep the aspect ratio.

Hi Blighty,
^^Below the black colour selection dialog area, I don't have the same as in your pic above. Mine says "You can drop dockable dialogs here. There is nothing about aspect ratio, even when I have a layer and clicked on scale tool.

Go to Windows > Dockable Dialogues
Select Tool Options
I don't remember where it opens, maybe as a separate window.
Where ever it is drag it and drop to where it says You can drop dockable dialogs here
NOTE: Don't drag the window title bar, drag the actual tab. The tab that has the words Tool Options on it.
Make sure that the Tool Options dialogue is visible at all times. It is used almost continuously.

Hi folks,
I've been painting artistic pictures. I've scanned them into my computer. I'm using gimp to resize then print. The printed picture colours are off. Would I be able to convert from RGB to CMYK in gimp. If so, could you help me please.

Converting to CMYK will not fix the colours. Might even make them worse.

Converting to CMYK these are some (free) options
There is an old plugin for Gimp that produces a CMYK image as a final operation. Gimp is not a CMYK editor. As far as I know it still works in latest Gimp 2.8.x (but not Gimp 2.9)

The plugin requires an old file to work with Gimp 2.8 The needed files are bundled here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/azx5y5uyd7t0a31/cmyk_utility.zip (5MB)
There are of course other ways.
On line using http://www.rgb2cmyk.org depending on file size
The drawing application Krita works in both RGB and CMYK and can convert between colour spaces.
Command line ImageMagick will convert RGB to CMYK in several formats.
