Trying to keep out of this but my euros worth and one problem is...

quote...I say to those people, spend 24 years on PS and then tell me what it's missing. You represent one side of the coin and the respondents represent the other side.

quote...there are other ways of doing things but not as efficient.. Are they really, not if you spend 24 years using Gimp and understand the work flow.

quote...If GIMP is so much better than PS, then explain why 99 percent of professional studios don't use it?
A friend is a lecturer (archaeology) at a local university. Adobe (and Microsoft) give them and the students free/reduced rate software. Any papers for publication have to be in Word / PS / Illustrator stipulated by University. So that 99% is just a culture, it could just as easily be LibreOffice / Gimp / Inkscape.

Really not interested in A is better than B. Gimp is just a tool much the same as a hand saw, some cut by pushing, some cut by pulling. The end result is the same.

(I actually opened a CMYK image in PS7 (linux using WINE) yesterday to check a Gimp3 export that looked odd in an image viewer. Not a nice experience but then I gave up PS 20 years ago Wink )

Edit: Looking at your other post, really I think you would be better off on Reddit, more your style I think.

My apologies folks.

I'm finding that you can do all the things I suggested as I dig deeper into this app. Again, my apologies for my previous comments. I found the rotate selection vers layers in the tools, and Layer Via Cut is as simple as cut and paste into a new layer. I've got the layer issue I previously had figured out also.

On a side note: The performance of the filters is slow and the moving layers sometimes feels sluggish, but not a big deal. I tried going into playground mode and enabling GPU support, didn't really make a difference but it's not an issue. I'm sure the program will only get better.  It's much better than paying Adobe for SAAS for something you don't even own.
