Since you haven't replied to recent I am assuming you may have your problem fixed?
Another way to go about it is to just drop the opacity in the layer (your picture?) that you want to take half the colour out of.
Put a white layer behind it and you will see then how far to drop the opacity. Doing a stroke around your text or having a drop shadow is always a good idea to make the text stand out.
