RE: Coloring Help - rich2005 - 02-20-2018 The new image is slightly better than the earlier one (10,000 colors vs. 5,000) but still a low base to work from. You might improve it a little bit. Something like this: https://i.imgur.com/AvEYHX2.png Using standard Gimp tools Duplicated layers, working on top layer (addition mode) Remove the blockiness - use Filters -> Blur -> Selective Gaussian Blur twice: radius 3/delta 8 then radius 0.4/delta 34 Top layer in addition mode, add a layer mask, Layer -> Mask -> Add Layer Mask paint out any parts that are too bright. New from visible, any small corrections Final sharpen Filters -> Enhance -> Unsharp Mask default values. A video of the process: duration 5 minutes direct link https://youtu.be/4kmcn6JO0iI RE: Coloring Help - SolidSnake2003 - 02-20-2018 Thanks for the suggestions, but I think its best if I just stick with more bright scenes. The darker stuff just isn't super usable even with the Blu-Ray screencaps. The best version of the pic I want to use has text in my way, and I don't know if it can be removed, and make the pic look believeable. https://imgur.com/a/ctdP7 Thanks for all of the help. This has all helped me that I don't have to rely on Photoshop Elements alot, infact I seem to get alot more out of GIMP than Elements. RE: Coloring Help - SolidSnake2003 - 02-21-2018 Here is a few more photos from the same scene, not much better but these are also capped from the Blu-Ray as far as I know, capped at full 1080p. The only higher quality Im aware of is the 4k release, but there seems to be no screen caps from that version I'm aware of. http://kissthemgoodbye.net/horrors/albums/It%202017/it_2017_kissthemgoodbye_28346629.jpg http://kissthemgoodbye.net/horrors/albums/It%202017/it_2017_kissthemgoodbye_28346729.jpg http://kissthemgoodbye.net/horrors/albums/It%202017/it_2017_kissthemgoodbye_28346829.jpg http://kissthemgoodbye.net/horrors/albums/It%202017/it_2017_kissthemgoodbye_28346929.jpg RE: Coloring Help - SolidSnake2003 - 02-22-2018 Do any of those produce better results? RE: Coloring Help - rich2005 - 02-22-2018 No, you are on a loser with those dark images, basically they do not contain enough colour information to improve. I have decided to try to recreate something you did Rich2005 using one of the DVD screen captures, https://i.imgur.com/JkINqd2.jpg. I am using a different image, one that is actually from the gif Im trying to recreate. Here is a link to one of the original frames captured from the blu-ray: http://kissthemgoodbye.net/horrors/albums/It%202017/it_2017_kissthemgoodbye_2833129.jpg First I used auto white balance, then I added a curve to darken it just a touch for contrast to make the yellow stand out(want it just a bit brighter than the gif, just trying to put my own spin to make it unique to me) https://imgur.com/F0nupLz I have added the color grading under gmic>colors, but I can't seem to get what you got from your image above, any pointers? https://imgur.com/GwUNVQ6 RE: Coloring Help - rich2005 - 02-22-2018 I think the term is going round in circles Can't keep trying to improve every image you post, there is no fixed recipe for everything. Each will need some different adjustment from the next. The thing about plugins like gmic, do have controls to give a reasonable pre-view. The very best way is for you to keep experimenting, which I can see you are doing. One last suggestion. Have you tried any pre-gimp processing in VLC. This does not work with those very dark images. Nothing there to process. This is the video clip downloaded from youtube and some adjustments made. The frame looks like this (a bit big to attach) link to my storage. https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code=XZbErR7ZXXi0RSaHuikxfP6RxdbVcfTv2Ppk RE: Coloring Help - SolidSnake2003 - 02-22-2018 Sorry for going around in circles, was just trying to see if I could recreate what you did with a different frame. I have tried VLC's enhancemenets, but they look different on my setup guess its cause I'm using Windows not Linux https://imgur.com/a/YRdAu RE: Coloring Help - rich2005 - 02-22-2018 Wrong one You want Tools menu -> Effects and Filters. Keep going, you are doing ok. It is all about experimenting and practice. |
